Foundational Attitudes of Mindfulness Course

The Foundational Attitudes of Mindfulness, as beautifully summarised by Jon Kabat-Zinn, form the basis of both formal and informal mindfulness practice.

In this six-week online course, we will explore these attitudes in depth, discovering how they can support and deepen our mindfulness practice and become qualities we can bring into everyday life.

Across the six weeks, we will explore the nine foundational attitudes of mindfulness, allowing each session to focus on different attitudes and the ways they connect with and support one another.

Through guided mindfulness practices, practical exercises and group enquiry, we will explore these attitudes not simply as ideas to understand, but as qualities we can begin to cultivate and embody in our lives.

There will also be plenty of space to ask questions, share experiences and learn from one another. This is not only a course, but a community in which we can come together to meditate and practise.

Each session includes:

  • Guided mindfulness practices
  • Exploration of the foundational attitudes of mindfulness
  • Practical exercises and reflection
  • Group sharing and enquiry
  • Time to ask questions and explore together
  • Space to simply be and meditate as a community

The course is open to all levels of experience, whether you are new to mindfulness or have an established practice and would like to deepen your understanding and explore mindfulness in community.

The Foundational Attitudes of Mindfulness

Jon Kabat-Zinn’s foundational attitudes offer different ways of approaching our practice and our experience. Rather than qualities we need to achieve, these attitudes can be understood as invitations; ways of meeting ourselves, others and our experience with greater openness, curiosity and kindness.

Throughout the six weeks, we will explore how these attitudes can come alive in meditation and in everyday situations:

What happens when I meet my experience in this way?
How can I cultivate this quality in my practice?
What might it mean to embody mindfulness in everyday life?
